Obama Caught Misquoting House Member He Criticized

Although President Obama did not specifically name Rep. Akin, his comments are clearly in reference to remarks the Missouri Congressman made in a debate Saturday. When asked about the subject, Rep. Akin criticized the government for taking control of college loans in 2009.

The Oval: "Sticker Culture"

Last time we met, I spoke about how we needed to end our dependence on Washington D.C.

Today, I want to talk about how we can do that.

Getting Washington out of our lives will start when we stop waiting for Washington to solve our problems.

And that takes a major change in mindset.

When our politicians come to us at election time, they promise to do things for us.

From now on, we should say: "No thanks. We've got it. Just let us do the work ourselves."

That will be the easy part.

The hard part will be at home.

The Oval episode 1: “The Imperial City”

My fellow Americans, today we are going to try something new.

I am going to sit here and say what we all know is true… but which everyone is afraid to say.

I am going to talk about what made this country is great… but why it is risking its greatness.

This is what our leaders should be doing. This is what our leaders are paid to do. This is why we give them advisers… and airplanes to travel the world… and beautiful offices, just like this one.

But they don’t do it. They won’t do it.

So I will.

Let’s start with a simple observation. Before World War II, before the New Deal, here is what Washington D.C. looked like. It was a backwater. A swampy, sleepy city where nothing much happened.

Weekly Addresses 3-31-2012

Passing the Buffett Rule So That Everyone Pays Their Fair Share

President Obama calls on Congress to pass the Buffett Rule, a principle that ensures that millionaires and billionaires do not pay less in taxes as a share of their income than middle class families pay -- as a matter of fairness.

Weekly Republican Address: Challenging President Obama to Back House-Passed Energy Bills

In the Weekly Republican Address, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) challenges President Obama to press for Senate action on bipartisan, House-passed energy bills. All of these bills have passed with bipartisan support, and many are backed by the president's own jobs council. The address caps off a week that saw passage of the GOP's "Path to Prosperity" budget and a 90-day transportation bill extension that Democrats initially vowed to oppose, as well as the launch of the next phase of the American Energy Initiative.
